So in October 2006 ZeVin began an adventure they won't ever forget -- applying for the show "That's Clever" on HGTV. This page will highlight the past and present events related to the feature to come Fall of 2007.

History:

  • Early October 2006 - Maranda of ZeVin Creations found out about the the HGTV- "That's Clever" coming to the KY area to film local artists. She watched the show a couple of times and considers to put together something special to submit. After getting pictures of the cards (one being a Kwanza card) and herself submits the application on October 12, 2006.
  • October 13, 2006 - Maranda is requested to put together a couple more sample Kwanzaa themed cards for the show's representative to review for consideration. Maranda puts together 3 more cards and submits them. She then has a phone conversation explaining what she did to make two of her cards and a little about the company.
  • October 20, 2006 - Maranda gets the official letter from HGTV that two cards will be featured on the HGTV show - "That's Clever". As you can imagine there is a lot of excitement and nerves running around the home of the two sisters -- excited that they've gotten this accomplishment and nerves for their home/studio is a mess!
  • October 26, 2006 - Maranda had to talks with the producer of the KY segments and is informed her film date - November 13 - 14, 2006.
  • November 9, 2006 - Press release about HGTV filming on NewsWire. Read the release at http://www.newswiretoday.com/news/10488/. We got immediate response about the press release from local papers and get requested for information.
  • November 13, 2006 - Two members of the film crew come to make sure the studio is clean and a great filming area... verify the outfit Maranda is going to wear and makes sure everything is set for the BIG day.
  • November 14, 2006 - The day has come.. the filming of the segment on our cards..Prior to the film crew coming -- Courier Journal's Larry Muhammad and Matt Stone interviewed and took pictures of Marisa and Maranda. Then the filming began.. it was fun and took about 4-5 hours to do.. but well worth it! Maranda would love to see the blooper reel... took several takes on stuff. HUGE KUDOS to the crew.. they were awesome!
  • December 1, 2006 - Today's Woman magazine features the two cards being featured on HGTV in their December issue. Thanks to the Today's Woman magazine folks for doing the last-minute feature. Click the image to see the feature.

  • December 6, 2006 - OMGoodness we are on the cover of the Courier-Journal Features Section... WOW. When they did the interview we didn't expect anything major.. but we were wrong. For that entire weekend we were stopped places asked aren't you the two in the paper.. It was quite overwhelming. We hope to have the article on our site for people to read soon.. it has been moved to archives. We do have the images that they took for the paper though -- just click here.

  • March 20, 2007 - The Craft Revolution article “Expose Your Talents” came out this week discussing HGTV That’s Clever and how to apply. ZeVin Creations is mentioned in the article discussing our step to the TV show taping. A huge THANKS to Craft Revolution for mentioning our adventure.
  • June 1, 2007 -- We sent an email to find the episode/air date...

CURRENT: Today, June 7, 2007, we got the email from HGTV telling us the episode # -- Here is part of the note

I do not have an air date for you yet, but I do have an episode number. Your segment will appear in episode HCLVR-465 . As of this date, the Network has told us that they plan to premiere the 400 series of That's Clever in January, 2008. Because your segment is being shown in one of our Holiday Specials, your episode may air either this Holiday season (2007) or next (2008). I will not know for certain about the holiday specials until sometime around late October.
